The purpose of The Awakening, a manifesto for a new civilizational order, is twofold. It poses the hypothesis of a necessary convergence of proposals, initiatives or struggles that invite us to define a new civilizational order. It affirms the importance of accompanying the emancipatory narrative of institutional devices to be based on the Common and on the principles and advances of Buen vivir. In other words, it is important to think and make effective a new institutional framework. To do so from cultural orientations based on solidarity, democracy, otherness, inclusion, ecology and an ethical and aesthetic re-enchantment combining social justice and environmental justice.

What is the Awakening ?

It is a proposal for a “benchmark” manifesto whose claim is not so much to dictate content as to establish the conditions that must be met for the collective work of re-founding to engage in a winning praxeology. The Awakening is an invitation to recompose ourselves, to rediscover that totality sacrificed at the altar of individuality. It is a proposal to reconnect with the modesty that we have lost by wanting everything to be in our image and to respond only to our interests.

We are part of the living world and must learn to compose in and with the totality that surrounds us. Nature is not against us, it is in us and we are in it.

This Manifesto modestly attempts to open a transversal dialogue between all the proposals that stand in silo to deploy “their” solution to the crisis. The Awakening provides a sort of agenda of the great dimensions, the great points to consider so that these proposals unite and converge in order to grow in size and power.

The proposed We is meant to be inclusive. It is the initiative of three UQAM researchers who have conceived the Manifesto as a proposal to be enriched and worked on by all those concerned about our collective future.

We invite you to read it, but also, and above all, to comment on it, to rework it and to use it as a reference point to guide and act in your personal, collective or professional universe to make our world a more just and ecological one.
